Great light weight saw for tramping / camping

Wow, what a great bit of kit. Awesome at cutting up green beech tree branches wind fallen across the tracks and then dead beech / manuka branches & trunks at the hut for the fire place. Blade was a bit bendy at the start but that stopped with practice. Although it is large teeth, it did pretty well on the occasional broom weeds we found too. Glad I bought it!

Silky saw

Not as good as told only cuts on back stroke and will not cut on wood 10 mm or thiner

Silky Store

Hi Bill. Thanks so much for the feedback and sorry to hear the F180 saw wasn't quite to your expectation. All Silky Saws only cut on the pull (back) stroke, but once you get comfortable with this method, you'll find it much more efficient than a saw that cuts on the push. Pulling the blade towards you places the saw under tension and makes it stronger, whereby pushing the blade compresses it and risks bending or possibly breaking it. Pulling the blade also naturally straightens the cut giving you a cleaner finish. The F180 is essentially a pruning saw, but if you're cutting a branch that is only 10mm thick, it should still cut without any difficulty, and you should be able to go through that in a couple of strokes. If it's hard flat wood you're referring to such as a plank, you'd be best to use a saw with smaller size teeth such as the Silky Woodboy or Hibiki - these are specifically made for carpentry and woodworking. The comparison is the F180 has large 7.5 teeth per 30mm along the blade, and the carpentry saws have between 22, 26 or even 32 teeth per 30mm. The smaller teeth make it easier to cut through harder wood such as planks etc. Hope that helps a bit, but if you need anything else, please just contact us on sales@silkystore.co.nz.
